What's On In February

Off The Beach News
There was no sailing on Sunday 12th February due to atrocious wind conditions. Well done to the keelboaters for braving those conditions.
Speaking of being brave, some of our junior members headed over to Mornington Yacht Club on the weekend to compete in the Schnapper Point Regatta. Our junior sailors showed amazing strength, courage and determination to turn up and get the job done in wind that would turn your ears inside out.
Saturday started by hitting the water at 1.30pm, our 420 sailors Nick Meijer (skipper) with Jess Lowe, Zac Lowe (skipper) with Finn Meijer only finishing one race after a couple of trying hours on the water. In an event that saw most races cancelled and plenty of head injuries, concussions, bumps, and trips to hospital, our kids held it together and arrived back on shore safe and sound. Saturday was also challenging for the Green Fleet competitors, where we had Jamieson Ferguson entered with his RS Tera. Unfortunately the Green Fleet didn't make it off the beach due to strong winds.
So after two days of challenges and tough calls by the race officers, the event was over and our 420 sailors Nick and Jess were awarded 1st place in the double handed OTB Division. A special thanks was given to Zac and Finn for their honesty in correcting the race results after noticing that they were 1st on the leader board by mistake.

Mustang Sally Anniversary Trophy
Friday night was a perfect night to celebrate the anniversary of keelboat racing at Safety Beach Sailing Club, with plenty of breeze and lots of sun. We had 28 boats take to the water with some really close racing on the course and at the finish line.
This year’s winner of the Mustang Sally Anniversary Trophy race is Tumi, skippered by Jeff Savage with crew members’ Jenny Thompson, Jacqui Jones and Mike Squires. To make it even more special, we had Fabian and his partner Markus from our sponsors Berwick Land Rover onboard Tumi to enjoy the win and after sailing celebrations back at the club. A great night was had by all.
